NIHR Clinical Trial 70-day Benchmark and Clinical Trial Recruitment Transparency
The Government wants to see a dramatic and sustained improvement in the performance of providers of NHS services in initiating and delivering clinical research.
As part of an incentive under the Government’s ‘Plan for Growth’ and via the new National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) contracts with providers of NHS services, the Department of Health requires us to report on a quarterly basis on our performance in set up and delivery of Research Studies at the Trust and in particular:
- The initiation of clinical research – it should take no longer than 70 days following receipt of a valid research application to the recruitment of the first participant.
- The delivery of clinical research – the agreed target number of participants should be recruited within the agreed timeframe for all commercial clinical trials.
