Clinical Biochemistry

A comprehensive range of general chemistry and immunoassay tests are available on site. Automation is used to provide a high throughput and emergency analyses. Pre- and post-analytical processes have also been streamlined by the use of automated equipment.

A smaller manual and semi-automated area includes paraprotein identification and osmolality measurement. Immunological assays and uncommon tests are referred to specialist accredited laboratories for analysis.

All assays are subject to internal quality control procedures and the laboratory is enrolled in all available external quality assurance schemes that are applicable.

Clinical advice and interpretative services are available via telephone, email and printed comments on reports.

The department is committed to the training of its support workers, pre-registration and post-registration staff as well as other healthcare personnel.
