About our service

We provide services to the following areas:

Inpatients

  • Inpatient dietetic care for appropriately referred adults and paediatric patients at North Devon District Hospital and South Molton Hospital.
  • Ensuring that the hospital meals meet nutritional standards

 

Outpatients

Adults

    • General Adult clinics
    • Gastroenterology clinic (eg coeliac disease, Irritable bowel syndrome – IBS, Inflammatory bowel disease – IBD (Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis))
    • Joint adult Diabetes Dietitian and Diabetes Nurse clinic
    • Antenatal Diabetes clinic
    • Weight Management, including post bariatric surgery.
    • Eating disorders clinic
    • Head and Neck Cancer multi-disciplinary support team clinic
    • Upper GI and general oncology clinic, and service to Seamoor unit
    • Telephone clinic (for patients unable to travel to the clinic)

At Bideford and Holsworthy

    • Adult Diabetes multidisciplinary team clinic

 

Paediatrics

  • Adults and children receiving enteral tube feeds at home.

    • Living with and Beyond Cancer Health and wellbeing groups
    • Stroke rehabilitation (VISTA)
    • Cardiac rehabilitation
    • Rheumatoid arthritis
    • Pulmonary rehabilitation
    • Type 1 and type 2 diabetes
    • Other groups when requested, eg upper gastrointestinal cancer support group, colorectal cancer support group.

    • Contribute to staff Health and Wellbeing events
    • Nurse Preceptorship nutrition training
    • Junior doctors nutrition training
    • Nutrition in Critical illness, part of University of Plymouth Masters module.
    • Nutrition section of Essential skills for support workers course
    • Nutrition section of Registered Nurse training on Diabetes
    • Nutrition section of Health Care assistant training on Diabetes
    • Ward staff training as required on different subjects eg. Nutrition screening, food allergen awareness.
    • Other events – eg. Careers fairs

 

  • Individualised staff and patient training in association with feeding company nurse for patients going home on enteral feeding.

Student Training

  • Clinical placements for first, second and third year Student Dietitians from University of Plymouth.
