Mr David Bunting

David Bunting is a consultant upper GI Surgeon at North Devon District Hospital. He completed undergraduate medical training at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals’ Medical School in London. His speciality training included a Trauma Fellowship in Cape Town, South Africa and a Fellowship in specialist Upper GI Surgery in Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. David’s post-graduate doctorate thesis investigated the use of biomarkers in predicting response to chemotherapy in patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer. He has research interests in abdominal wall hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery, oesophago-gastric cancer and the provision of surgical training. He has over 50 peer-reviewed publications and written book chapters on bariatric surgery and international surgical careers. David has given invited lectures on abdominal wall closure techniques, enhanced recovery in upper GI Surgery and endoscopic ultrasound. He works with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh on development of on-line training materials and is a trainer on the Advanced Trauma Life Support provider course. He is a former member of the Association of Surgeons in Training Council, and is currently a member of the British Association of Day Surgery Council.
