Support groups

Sometimes the best person to speak to is not a healthcare professional, relative or friend but someone else who has diabetes. Support groups are a great way to find answers from people who have already experienced what you are going through.

In North Devon we have a number of local support groups:

North Devon Diabetes Support Group based in Barnstaple

“We are a friendly support group for people with diabetes and carers. We have a monthly meeting with a speaker who will try to help us with various aspects of diabetes, followed by a coffee and a chat. We also have an informal meeting where we talk over coffee and share tips and ideas on many different subjects as well as diabetes. We have walks, various trips out and other activities.”
Lyn Hill, Chairperson

The coffee morning is held at St John’s Garden Centre, Newport, Barnstaple at 10.30 a.m. on the first Monday of each month.

The formal meeting is held at Roundswell Community Centre (next to Sainsbury’s) at 10.30 a.m. on the third Monday of each month.

Diabetes Support and Advice Group based in Ilfracombe

Pam & Carol, two retired diabetes nurse specialists, have set up a friendly support group in Ilfracombe for people with diabetes and their families.

The monthly group is an informal place where we can share practical tips and ideas on managing diabetes.

The group is held at Brookdale Church, Ilfracombe, EX34 8DB (not far from the Lidl supermarket on Wilder Road). The church is a fully accessible building with a lift to the groups meeting room. The church car park can be found to the rear of the building.

Please come along, have a cup of tea and see what it’s all about!
