I qualified as a registered nurse in 1997, completing my training at Bournemouth hospital/university.
I continued to work at Bournemouth in acute medicine, before returning to Cornwall and taking up a post as a community nurse. I came to love the role, enjoying the autonomy it allows and the opportunity to develop a unique relationship with my patients and wider community. I worked in the team for 15 years, latterly as the clinical lead.
In 2014, I took a part time position with the Cornwall Community Tissue Viability Service, alongside my role as community nurse. I moved to Tissue Viability full time the following year. Working in a specialist service was a steep learning curve, which I relished. The teaching part of the role helped me to identify my enjoyment of delivering training, which I am now able to further develop in my post within the North Devon Care Homes Team as a nurse educator.
I am currently working towards my BSc in Healthcare through Plymouth University.
