Nipple discharge is a common presenting symptom in women of reproductive age
- it is the third most common breast complaint after breast pain and breast mass
- most often caused by a benign condition (around 97% of cases)
Nipple discharge involving both breasts and coming from multiple ducts is usually benign (physiological). However, if it is spontaneous, unilateral, bloody or associated with skin changes or a lump (red flag features) then you should get referred to a breast centre/unit.
