‘Virtual Clinic’ video consultations

Virtual Clinics enable us to offer outpatient appointments via video.

Virtual Clinic powered by Medio.Link is the technology we will be using for your confidential video consultation.

Virtual Clinic enables you to have your appointment via a completely secure video environment from the comfort of your own home.

You can connect using any device, using the app or via a web browser.

You will be sent an email containing your appointment details.

Your clinician or a member of the booking team will advise you that your appointment will be held as a Virtual Clinic video consultation.

What to expect

If your appointment is to be held as a virtual clinic, your clinician or a member of the booking team will inform you and you will be sent an email containing your appointment details.

What to do before your appointment

Choose how you want to connect

  • Connect using your internet (web) browser – please use Chrome or Firefox and ensure your device has access to a camera
  • Connect via a mobile device – please ensure you download either the Apple or Android app in plenty of time before your appointment

Please press ‘Allow’ for all camera and microphone access pop ups.

Decide where you will be when you participate in your appointment

  • Venue – please ensure you choose somewhere confidential where you will not be interrupted. You need to be comfortable to discuss your medical condition without others overhearing

FAQs

If I have a video consultation will I then always have to see my doctor via a video link?

No, video consultations will only be used by our clinicians in circumstances where physical examinations and diagnostic tests are not required.

Video consultations are a solution to long journeys, car parking costs and delays in clinic currently experienced by patients but will not replace the requirement for patients to come into hospital for a physical examination.

I don’t have a device that has a camera and microphone; can I still have a video consultation?

Unfortunately not, to hold an effective video consultation our clinicians will need to both see and hear you therefore your device must have a camera and a microphone. Please press ‘Ok’ for all camera and microphone access pop ups.

Would you recommend using Wi-Fi or 4G to access my appointment?

You can access your appointment using either Wi-Fi or 4G, however we would recommend using a Wi-Fi network as 4G coverage across northern Devon can sometimes be unreliable. Accessing your appointment using Wi-Fi will also ensure you avoid unnecessary use of your data allowance.

What happens if I lose the appointment email?

Don’t worry; a reminder appointment email is re-sent on the day of your appointment.

I have opened the Virtual Clinic app but can’t see how to join my appointment?

To connect to your appointment you will need to use the links contained within the appointment email. If you are using the app then using the link within the appointment email will automatically launch the Virtual Clinic app.
