Key Performance Indicators

The pathology department has established a selection of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor and evaluate performance throughout critical aspectsof pre-examination, examination and post-examination processes. Primarily we monitor these KPIs to evaluate the laboratory’s contribution to patient care.KPI icon The process of monitoring our KPIs is planned, which includes establishing the objectives, methodology, interpretation, limits, action plan and duration of measurement. We review the KPIs annually as part of the Pathology Annual Management Review process to ensure their continued appropriateness.

 % of Core Biochemistry Test Results from A/E Made Available Within 1 Hour of Receipt in the Lab
 % of Core Haematology Test Results from A/E Made Available Within 1 Hour of Receipt in the Lab
% of All Histology Requests Made Available within 3 Days and 7 Days of Specimen Collection
 % of Negative, Antenatal Screen Test Results Made Available within 7 Days of Specimen Collection
% of Paediatric Blood Culture Specimens Reported within 36 hours of Specimen Collection & Receipt in the Lab
