Delivery of Reports

Hardcopy Reports – N.D.D.H.

The NDHT uses a paper based patient record system and as part of this system, the laboratory sends hardcopy (paper) reports to all N.D.D.H. locations.
These reports leave the Laboratory for the wards at 09:30, 13:00 and 17:30 on Mondays to Fridays and at 12:30 on Saturdays. There is no scheduled ward delivery on Sundays.

Hardcopy Reports – Other Locations

Reports are taken from the Laboratory, by hospital transport, to all health centres and peripheral hospitals and other locations at least once per weekday. On Friday evenings and Saturdays, reports leave by second class mail. (Patients’ Warfarin books are sent first class.) There is no hospital transport delivery to health centres at weekends.

Electronic Reports

GP Practices: The majority of Pathology reports (Biochemistry, Haematology and Microbiology) are sent electronically to GP practices throughout the day at 09:00, 10:00, 13:00 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00 and 21:00 seven days a week. Histology reports, Transfusion reports and results from tests analysed in other laboratories are only sent as hardcopy reports (see above for times).

The Pathology I.T. department does not have access to the GP computer systems, and is unable to advise on their functionality. However, the department is able to assess the status of electronic reports which have been sent out and can see if reports have been collected by the GP systems. Contact Rob Stradling, Pathology Application Manager for further information, extension 22324. Link to Pathology I.T. Dept. here
