Day 7 – Louise Pritchard, sexual health nurse adviser

What do you do for the Trust?

I am a nurse adviser at The Centre, which is the sexual health service based in Exeter.

My role is dual purpose if you like – most of the time I am in the health adviser role, seeing patients that are referred by my colleagues for treatment of STIs, partner notification, vaccinations and safeguarding issues. I also run nurse-led clinics, which are often the first point of contact for people who want to discuss their sexual health and if necessary have an examination and diagnosis.

What makes you proud of your work?

I am very proud of the team I work in – everyone is passionate about what they do, and very caring and supportive. Despite the challenges, we deliver a high standard of care.

What was your highlight of 2018?

Being recognised for recruiting 180 participants into the SAFETXT study, which is a randomised controlled study to see if sending text messages about safe sex can reduce STI diagnoses in young people.

Personally, I was rather chuffed when our rescue dog Tia won ‘Best Biscuit Catcher’ at Martin Clunes’ Buckham Fair in the summer! We got to meet Martin too!

Top tip for a great Christmas?

A good nut roast…M&S do a very good one, as does my mum!
