Day 6 – Angela Walter, Admiral nurse and dementia clinical nurse specialist

What do you do for the Trust?

I am the newly appointed Admiral nurse – dementia clinical nurse specialist. I was appointed in March 2018 and I’m the first hospital-based Admiral nurse in Devon.

What makes you proud of your work?

I’m very proud to have worked for the NHS for over 30 years. I’m immensely proud to be a nurse, which really has been a vocation for me. Some days it’s challenging, but the people I work with and the passion they have soon changes that day into a better one.

I’m also very proud that we now have an Admiral nurse – dementia clinical nurse specialist  to support our patients and their families/carers who are living with dementia.

What was your highlight of 2018?

I’ve had many ‘highlights’ in 2018! Turning 50 and attempting to meet the 12 challenges set for me in my birthday year (five done and seven still to go!).

Having the support of wonderful friends and colleagues during a few difficult experiences!

Top tip for a great Christmas?

Remembering that life is about knowing the value of everything and not just the price!

And don’t forget we’ve got our Christmas dementia support café coming up on Wednesday 19 December – find out more –
