Day 14 – Ignacio Soto Medina, EU nurse

What do you do for the Trust?

I am one of the Trust’s EU nurses and I work on Fortescue Ward.

A group of us joined at the beginning of August – we are all registered nurses in our home countries and we are working in support roles on the inpatient wards at NDDH alongside the registered nurses. We are studying for our Occupational English Test (OET) at the same time, and once we have successfully completed this qualification we will be in a position to apply for our PIN numbers from the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Then I will be able to work in a nursing role in the UK.

What makes you proud of your work?

It’s important to work in a good environment and have good contact with patients, and it’s really nice here. I am very happy to work here.

We’re a big group and we do our training together and we feel really supported by the hospital, which is great.

What was your highlight of 2018?

Coming to the UK, it was a good decision for me to grow professionally and personally by coming to work here in North Devon. It’s a nice area and I’m staying with a lovely host family.

Top tip for a great Christmas?

Of course it’s family and good company. I hope everyone has a happy Christmas!
