Day 1 – Ellie Williams, diabetes specialist dietitian

What do you do for the Trust?

I’m a diabetes specialist dietitian and I volunteer as a breastfeeding peer support worker.

What makes you proud of your work?

I love that “eureka moment” when a patient understands their condition (such as diabetes) and feels empowered to manage it around their life.

The collective positivity of a team pulling together, supporting each other and pushing forward to improve patient care.

Witnessing the amazing bond between mum and baby and the love that surrounds them both.

What was your highlight of 2018?

My personal highlight was completing the Great West Run half marathon in memory of Dr Alastair Watt. I am not a natural runner, but I did it. I managed to raise over £800 for the Samaritans and I’m still collecting! You can donate online at

Top tip for a great Christmas?

It’s all about presence, not presents. Enjoy those little moments and leave the usual festive pressures behind.
