NDHT Maternity COVID-19 update – Lateral flow testing for pregnant women and their support person

NDHT Maternity covid rulesFrom Monday 7 June 2021 NDHT is asking all pregnant women and their support person (e.g. partner) to self-test for COVID-19 twice a week using a lateral flow device (LFD) at home.

These tests can be obtained free of charge online or can be collected from a local pharmacy. Please see www.gov.uk for details.

The tests are simple to complete and the results need to be registered at: www.gov.uk/report-covid-19-result

Once results are registered an email and text message will be generated confirming the result. This will need to be shown when attending appointments.

With a negative LFD COVID-19 result and no symptoms of COVID-19, a support person will be able to accompany women to:

  • All maternity scans
  • Midwifery or consultant appointments at North Devon District Hospital
  • Antenatal/postnatal appointments in community settings (this may be subject to adequate space within certain settings and support people may be asked to wait outside)
  • Antenatal/postnatal ward and labour ward as per our previously advised timescales.

We will be asking for confirmation of negative tests the week beginning 7 June 2021. We appreciate it may take some time for women to receive and use the tests. Further information can be found on this advice sheet.

We ask that you continue to wear face coverings and clean your hands regularly. No children are able to attend appointments at this time.

Thank you for your support and patience over the pandemic. We hope you are able to support our new approach and keep everyone as safe as possible
