Dr Elizabeth Wilkinson becomes president of the British Association of Retinal Screening

Congratulations to Dr Elizabeth Wilkinson, medical ophthalmologist, who has become the president of the British Association of Retinal Screening.

The British Association of Retinal Screening (BARS) is the UK’s professional organisation for those who provide retinal screening services. Retinal screening is a test to check for eye problems caused by diabetes.

BARS offers education, representation and support to a wide range of professionals involved in diabetic retinal screening.

Dr Wilkinson has been involved in diabetic eye screening since 2009. She is currently the clinical lead of the diabetic eye screening service in Devon and vice chair of the National Diabetic Eye Screening Advisory Board.

Dr Wilkinson set up the National Diabetic Eye Screening Conference in conjunction with Public Health England in 2011. She was the second female president of ophthalmology at the Royal Society of Medicine.
