Discharge coordinator Charlotte Rushton collects Our Health Heroes award

Congratulations to Charlotte Rushton, discharge coordinator, who was a finalist in the Our Health Heroes Awards. Charlotte attended a ceremony in November to pick up her award after winning the regional stage of the Operational Services Support Worker of the Year category.

This award celebrates the input of operational services support workers and the significant contribution they make to the health sector.

Charlotte said: “I was so shocked to win the regional stage, but really pleased too. I love my job! We have a fantastic team in the South West, and I couldn’t do my job without this brilliant team.

“I like helping people get home from hospital, and I really get to know the patients and their families in this role. When people are in hospital they can be going through some of the worst moments of their lives, and I’m glad that I can be part of making those moments a bit better.”

Charlotte was nominated by her colleague Karen Reeves, senior staff nurse, who said: “I nominated Charlotte for so many reasons. She has such a good rapport with patients – it’s lovely to see her interacting with people, who clearly value her. Going home from hospital can be scary for patients and families, but with Charlotte’s support everyone knows what’s going to happen and that helps people feel safe.

“For staff here on the ward, she is a mine of useful information who is always helping out where she can. We all need a bit of Charlotte!”
