North Devon Healthcare Trust (NDHT) are delighted to have delivered a joint initiative with West Buckland School to host an afternoon of mock medical interviews for students across Devon who are looking to pursue a medical career.
On Friday 15 November students from QE Crediton, Bideford College, Ilfracombe Academy, Pilton Community School and Mount Kelly will took part in a series of interviews, carried out by medical staff from North Devon District Hospital.
The students were honing skills that will help them in their applications for jobs ranging from medicine to physiotherapy and veterinary science. Interviews are part of the selection process for gaining entry on to any medical course.
Darryn Allcorn, NDHT chief nurse who took part in the event said, “We are thrilled to be able to support young people from across North Devon who are interested in a career in medicine.
“My colleagues and I are looking forward to meeting the doctors of the future and helping them prepare for medical course selection processes.”
The project is part of a wider outreach programme, run by West Buckland, working in partnership with schools in the region to ensure students prepare fully for their higher education, such as Oxbridge workshops and academic enrichment days, including advice and support on writing personal statements.
NDHT run a number of staff development and recruitment initiatives aimed at growing the number of people working in healthcare locally. For more information about these, working for the Trust or an up to date list of job opportunities visit www.ndhtjobs.com
