Applications open for course giving people the chance to join the operating theatre team

Applications are now open for a course giving people the chance to become a key part of a hospital operating theatre team.

We are working in partnership with other NHS trusts across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset and Birmingham City University to deliver a two-year operating department practitioner (ODP) diploma level course.

ODPs are a crucial part of the operating department team, working with surgeons, anaesthetists and other healthcare staff to ensure that surgery is as safe and effective as possible, providing a high standard of care to patients throughout each stage of their operation.

Students joining the full-time diploma of higher education programme in January 2020 could apply for the majority of their clinical placements at NDHT.

Key modules of study will include anaesthetic care, bioscience, surgical practice and post-anaesthetic care, alongside other modules that promote effective contemporary healthcare practice, which will be delivered in educational facilities at the RD&E.

If you would like more information about possible funding and an informal visit to the operating theatres at NDHT, please contact Andy Robinson, clinical educator, at or on 01271 322710.
