IBS symptoms are also symptoms of coeliac disease so sometimes coeliac disease isn’t correctly diagnosed straight away. Coeliac disease is strongly linked with type 1 diabetes and they are both autoimmune conditions.
There are tests for coeliac disease whereas IBS diagnosis is based on symptoms alone. If you eat gluten and are still having IBS type symptoms it could be worth checking if your GP has screened you for coeliac disease. You do have to be eating gluten for the test to be able to detect whether you have it, let your GP know if you are considering getting a test but have cut out gluten from your diet.
