Vitamin D

A lot of the UK population tend to be very low in their vitamin D levels at this time of the year. We produce most of our vitamin D when sunlight meets our skin. We’ve had some record breaking hot weather during this winter but there still hasn’t been the right strength of sunlight to let us make vitamin D.

There is some evidence that sufficient vitamin D may help protect against type 2 diabetes but more research is needed to confirm this. However it is proven to be important for bone health and regulating calcium levels which help our muscles work properly.

Now is a great time to top up vitamin D levels with a supplement. We only need 10mcg a day and this can be achieved with tablet or liquid form supplements. Vegan vitamin D is available too.
