Bladder and bowel care team’s study day helps Torbay care staff improve understanding

Our bladder and bowel care service covers all of Devon, and the adult bladder and bowel care team recently held a study day in Torquay, which has had fantastic feedback from attendees.

By sharing their specialist knowledge, the bladder and bowel care team aimed to help the community nursing and care home staff in South Devon enhance their understanding and deliver better care to the people they care for.

The team have run quite a few study days, with each one tailored to the needs within that geographic area, and this was the first one in the Torbay area.

The study day was held at the Riviera International Conference Centre. Places were free and it was attended by 86 delegates.

The day covered basic bladder and bowel care problems, with an emphasis on assessment and basic treatments that support maintaining independence. There were talks from bladder and bowel care specialist nurses, community hospital staff and the Trust’s tissue viability team.

Feedback from attendees was very positive and included:

  • “I have a deeper understanding of patient need.”
  • “I will be more aware of warning signs of skin issues and incontinence.”
  • “I will be able to pass my enhanced knowledge onto caregivers to enable us to provide best practice.”
  • “Updated knowledge.”
