Last week we welcomed 26 year 10 students for work experience at North Devon District Hospital and Pilton House Residential Home. Students came from local schools across northern Devon.
The week consisted of three classroom days, with talks and practical sessions provided by a variety of NHS professionals, and two days observing staff within the hospital and health and social care setting. The students observed patient care, shadowed healthcare professionals, had tours of pathology, theatres, maternity, pharmacy and learned clinical skills.
For the first time, speakers came from North Devon Hospice, Devon Partnership NHS Trust and Woodland Vale residential home, which adds another dimension to the week for the students.
We hope the students had a fantastic time and enjoyed learning about the many career opportunities available in the NHS and in health and social care. Thank you very much to everyone who contributed to this week and to those who spent time with the students to provide them with this brilliant experience.
Work experience at NDHT
Demand for work experience opportunities generally exceeds the number of placements we can offer, so we have an application and interview process for year 10 students (14/15 years of age) to select students to participate in this annual one-week work experience programme.
More details about work experience can be found here on the Trust website.
