Low vision assessment for children

What will happen at the appointment?

The low vision assessment usually takes about an hour. It is carried out by an optometrist and may include:

  • refraction to determine an up-to-date spectacle prescription
  • assessment for optical low vision aids for near and distance
  • the loan of low vision aids
  • advice on other services

Where is the service provided?

The clinic is held at the ophthalmology department, North Devon District Hospital, Barnstaple.

What to bring

Please bring:

  • any current spectacles
  • low vision aids
  • samples of any tasks your child may want help with
