WORK will start next week on the refurbishment of the day case unit at Sidmouth Hospital.
The unit is being redecorated and will be enhanced by a new purpose-built store room, new flooring and improved access.
The unit will be temporarily closed for six weeks, while the work takes place.
The planned closure will start on 27 January 2014 and the unit is due to reopen on 10 March 2014.
All patients affected have been informed and the majority of day case surgery will instead be provided at nearby community hospitals.
The upgrade of the unit is part of the £1.2million Phase 5 redevelopment of the hospital, which is due to be completed by the summer.
