The hard work of more than 120 NHS staff in North Devon will be recognised this month, when they are presented with certificates by Nick Harvey MP for success in training and education.
The awards will go to local employees at all levels from Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Devon Primary Care Trust, plus Sodexho, which runs support services such as cleaning, catering and portering.
Achievements range from vocational qualifications such as NVQ awards to diplomas and masters degrees. Courses were delivered in-house by the NHS or in partnership with North Devon College and the University of Plymouth. The qualifications cover a variety of health and social care subjects, business administration, paramedic training and educational practice.
The studies that went into these qualifications came on top of routine training in areas such as the manual handling of patients, equality & diversity, fire, health & safety, which are provided for all NHS staff.
Nick Harvey, MP for North Devon, will be handing over the awards at the Barnstaple Hotel on 30 November.
The event – with buffet lunch – is kindly being sponsored by the League of Friends at North Devon District Hospital.
Brian Sherwin, Chairman of Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “NHS staff in North Devon put in a huge amount of work to improve their skills, both at work and in their own time. This is just a small ‘thank you’ for their efforts, whether in the frontline or behind the scenes, which bring real benefits for local patients.”
Reporters and photographers are invited to the awards event at 12 noon on 30 November in the Arlington Suite, Barnstaple Hotel.
