Mike Roberts, currently Lead Clinician in the Accident and Emergency Department, has been appointed as the Trust’s Medical Director following interviews on Monday (2 July).
He will take over on 1 October from Sean O’Kelly, who has held the post on an interim basis since last year but whose secondment is due to end in September.
Mike is currently also Associate Medical Director with particular responsibility for unscheduled care.
As Medical Director he will become a member of the Trust Board, taking the lead on medical matters and advising the other executive and non-executive directors.
He will remain Lead Clinician in A&E, with cover provided whenever necessary by his consultant colleagues.
Mike gives his special interests as unscheduled care and helping staff reach their full potential.
He said: “I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to contribute to the Trust’s clear aim of providing excellent care for the patients we serve. I very much look forward to working with all staff in pursuit of this goal.”
Trust Chief Executive Jac Kelly said: “We’re very pleased to have appointed Mike. He’s already done some great work in A&E and has some very clear ideas for how we can move forward as a Trust on medical issues. Sean will be a hard act to follow, but we’re confident that Mike is exactly the right person to do it.”
