Budleigh Salterton Hospital

Budleigh Salterton Hospital is currently closed while work takes place to transform the building into a health and social care hub.

During the closure, the majority of outpatient clinics and services have switched to Exmouth Hospital. Other services have moved to other nearby venues. All patients have been informed as appropriate.  For enquiries, please contact Exmouth Hospital.

Visiting times

Afternoons: 3pm to 8pm

If you need to arrange a visit outside the set visiting times please let the ward know.

At certain times the ward may be closed for several reasons. For example, confidential discussions sometimes need to be held between staff and patients or there may be a patient rest period or a teaching and development session.

Meal times

Breakfast: 8am to 8.30am
Lunch: 12.30pm to 1.30pm
Dinner: 5.45pm to 6.45pm

During protected mealtimes, visitors are not permitted, unless they are helping you to eat. This allows patients time to eat their meal in peace. Protected mealtimes may vary slightly. Please check with the individual ward about times.

PEAT scores

Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) is an annual assessment of inpatient healthcare sites in England. PEAT inspects standards across a range of services including food, cleanliness, infection control and patient environment (including bathroom areas, décor, lighting, floors and patient areas).

In the 2011 PEAT inspection, Budleigh Salterton hospital scored ‘good’ for environment, food and privacy and dignity.

National Patient Safety Agency inspections: In the recent NPSA inspections, Budleigh Salterton Hospital was judged to be ‘excellent’ for environment and cleanliness and an ‘excellent’ rating for the food served there.

Visitors and staff should respect the site’s neighbours. If parking on residential roads surrounding the site becomes a problem for residents, the local authority may implement a ‘residents only’ parking scheme or impose parking restrictions.
