Nurse Liaison for adults with a Learning Disability

Lisa Baker

“Hello, I am Lisa and I am the Learning Disability Liaison Nurse.

I have over 20 years of experience supporting people with a Learning Disability.

I can offer support for patients to ensure that they get quality care within the acute hospital setting, offering real choice and control over the services that they receive.

I am able to offer information and signpost carers in the hospital, and give them reassurance about the individualised and holistic delivery of care for patients with a Learning Disability.

I am an information, advice and support resource for all staff to assist them to deliver the best possible care for patients with a Learning Disability.

My aim is to help people with a Learning Disability get the very best from their hospital experience.”

To ensure that NDHT are providing safe and equitable access and treatment for people with Learning Disabilities, making appropriate reasonable adjustments when required.

The Trust is firmly committed to the Mencap Getting it Right Charter to ensure people with a learning disability have equal access to healthcare.

Examples of “Reasonable Adjustments” that the hospital can make

  • Offer people who are not able to wait the first appointment of the day
  • Offer people a double appointment if they need more time to understand things
  • Make sure Hospital Passports are available
  • Offer people Easy Read information
  • Offer people the chance to visit the hospital before they come for treatment
