Children’s ward at NDDH welcomes Starlight’s Christmas panto

Christmas cheer came to North Devon District Hospital last Saturday (2 December), thanks to the Starlight Children’s Foundation’s pop-up pantomime.

Four professional actors visited Caroline Thorpe children’s ward and performed their version of Cinderella. The pantomime was fully interactive and included plenty of sing-a-long opportunities for the children, their families and staff.

Frances Greenaway, play specialist at Caroline Thorpe Ward, said: “The panto was wonderful, and it was lovely to see everyone being so entertained by the wonderful performance.

“Christmas can be a particularly difficult time of year for children to be in hospital, and the pantomime is one way of giving them a moment to enjoy something that can distract them from the reason they are with us.”

The performance is part of Starlight’s Christmas Pantomime tour, an eight-week tour of children’s wards across the country.

Sue Wildman, head of children’s services at Starlight Children’s Foundation, said: “Starlight’s pantomime is a fabulous way of spreading some much-needed festive cheer to children and their families spending time in hospital over the Christmas period.”
