Accident and Emergency at NDDH – for emergencies such as loss of consciousness, chest pain or serious injury. Open year round, 24 hours a day.
Advice for the public
During the winter period we often see more people, as illnesses such as flu or norovirus can become prevalent in local communities.
We would ask people to think twice before visiting Accident and Emergency or dialling 999 as these are for life threatening and emergency conditions and there are plenty of healthcare options available.
We have MIUs at Bideford Hospital and Ilfracombe Tyrell Hospital and these will be open over the Christmas period apart from Christmas day. These are staffed by an experienced nurse who will treat minor injuries and illnesses. People will often be seen quicker at an MIU rather than having to wait in the A and E department at North Devon District Hospital where the most urgent patients have to be given priority.
