Barnstaple event planned for 1 March

Patients and carers from across the area are being invited to help shape and improve the care provided by Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.

The Trust and Devon Local Involvement Network (LINk) are staging an event on Monday 1 March to find the best way of ensuring that the patient’s experience is always at the heart of local services.

That means finding people who have something to say about healthcare and are interested in being part of an initiative to shape the way the Trust – which runs North Devon District Hospital and the network of community hospitals and services – engages with patients, their families and carers in the future.

The event, running from 10am to 3pm at the Cedars Inn, Barnstaple, will bring patients, carers and healthcare staff together. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

The aim is to work out how patient participation could be strengthened, and to end the day with a plan for putting ideas into action.

Invitations to the event are being circulated via local groups and individuals already known to the Trust and to Devon LINk. But any patient or carer, past or present, will be welcome.

The invitations are addressed to people who have:

  • ideas for making patient and public participation effective
  • an ability to see ‘the big picture’
  • the time to share and develop ideas with others

Jenny Jacobs, the Trust’s Patient and Public Involvement Manager, said: “The whole aim is to make sure we build services around the needs of patients, now and in the future. Healthcare moves so fast that we need ongoing participation from patients and carers to make sure their voices are always heard.

“That might mean a small commitment or a larger commitment – there’s potentially a role for everyone.”
