Hospital staff in ‘mega shave off’ for Haiti

NDDH hairy dozen to lose beards for Shelter Box

Male nurses and doctors from North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) have been cultivating the bearded look during February – and this Sunday evening (28 February) the brave twelve will auction shaving rights to the highest bidder at a special event in Barnstaple.

Staff Nurse Andy Haydon persuaded eleven colleagues from the hospital’s Medical Assessment Unit to join him in the month-long beard-grow. Culminating in Sunday’s ‘Shave Off’ event, the hairy project aims to raise enough money to buy a Shelter Box for victims of this winter’s natural disaster in Haiti.

At the ‘Shave Off’ evening, friends, colleagues and others will vote for the winners of some hotly contested awards, including ‘Manliest Beard’ and ‘Smoothest Face’, before bidding for the right to shave their favourite candidate.

The ‘Mega Shave Off’ will take place on Sunday 28 February from 7.30pm at The Riverfront Café on The Strand, Barnstaple. All proceeds will go towards purchasing a Shelter Box for disaster victims in Haiti.
