Refurbished foyer shapes up at North Devon District Hospital

A renewed public foyer is taking shape at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH), as part of Northern Devon Healthcare Trust’s work to improve its environment for patients and visitors.
The redesigned foyer links to the hospital’s new Outpatients department, which opened last summer, bringing more than 1000 people every week through the concourse.
In preparation for the upgrade, the Trust conducted two surveys asking people what they wanted from facilities at the hospital – and the results have been directly fed into the architect’s plans for the foyer. Staff from the Trust and Sodexo, which runs a café, shop and porter service from the foyer, have also helped to develop the plans.
The enhanced foyer will include:
•Improved reception to assist visitors with queries
•Clearer information for patients and visitors
•A taxi and pick-up waiting area for patients and visitors
•Easier access to departments
•Modern, safe flooring throughout to improve cleanliness and reduce slips trips and falls.
•Better seating areas for visitors.
Iain Roy, director of facilities said, “The foyer at NDDH has not been updated for a number of years. Upgrading the facilities is essential for us to provide a modern, pleasant environment for our patients and visitors. We hope that people will bear with us while this important work is carried out – the completed refurbishment will provide improved facilities for many years to come’.
The refurbished foyer will be completed in April 2010. The Trust apologises for any inconvenience during the refurbishment work.
